Sharpened perfection.

My search for a local knife sharpener ended two weekends ago.  After what seemed like months of trying to find a sharpener that was not only local but capable, I finally found a dude in the Van Nuys/ lake Balboa area.

I bought my set of Wusthof's close to 6 years ago and in that time, I think I've had the main chef and utility knives sharpened professionally once.  While I have given them the once over, every now and again, using the sharpening rod, it's been perfunctory at best.  So, it's definitely been a long time coming.

With my mind set on getting the needed sharpening done, I began my search.  Unfortunately, finding a knife sharpener proved to be more difficult than I thought.  I mean, while there were sharpeners in the area, most were commercially oriented and lacked either the experience or equipment.  I mean, I'm not about to get my knives sharpened at a lawnmower shop.  There was the option of Ross Cutlery in DTLA, but again, I was looking for a local place.

Enter the interwebs.

A change of "locale" in my query turned up The Sharper Blade.  Their website alone was impressive with it's myriad information on types of knives, blade material and basic care.  Their prices listed seemed fair, so I decided to give them a try.

Chris Glickman's business card says he's a "master sharpener."  There's no doubt about that.  Working out of the garage of his home, Chris is a quirky little dude with an obvious knowledge and love of his craft.  He's friendly, informative and good at what he does.  If you have questions, he has answers.  His prices are more than fair and in most cases better than most.  In an hour and a half of turn-a-round time, Chris sharpened both of the knives I dropped off to sharpened perfection.  Both done by hand.  Both wrapped in thick paper and ready to go when I returned.  Sold.

Add The Sharper Blade to my list of local businesses that know how to get things done.
